Legal Assistance and ClaimsBldg 2027A 1st Floor (253) 967-0587/966-7526 (Legal Assistance) 967-0704 (Claims) Legal Assistance The Legal Assistance Office provides services in the area of family law, contracts, consumer rights, estate planning, home purchase, landlord/tenant issues, Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act matters and income taxation. Powers of Attorney and notary services are provided on a walk-in basis from 0900-1630, Monday, Wednesday, Friday; 1300-1430, Thursday and 0900-1500, Friday. Wills and Powers of Attorney are also provided for Soldiers at Soldier Readiness Point Activities. A full range of Legal Assistance services is provided on a walk-in basis by U.S. Army Reserve attorneys on certain Saturdays from 0800-1400 for retirees. Please call to confirm the availablity of Saturday service on a particular date. Claims The Claims Branch provides assistance to the military and civilian community on a wide variety of claims, including claims arising from loss of or damage to household goods and POVs during authorized shipment. Potential claimants must notify the Fort Lewis Claims Office of loss and damage within 70 days of receiving shipment by providing copies of the DD form 1840/1840R, which they received from the delivering agent upon delivery of each shipment.
